High School: Knightdale

Parent: Shakerah Brown

Position: Shooting Guard

Also Considered: N.C. Central University, UNC-Charlotte, University of North Florida, Radford University

Why Gardner-Webb? “I feel like they were just different from all the other schools that were interested in me.”

Most memorable: Lovely didn’t have a hard time pointing out the highlights of her time at Knightdale. “When I got a full scholarship and beat Southeast,” she said. Knightdale was the only Greater Neuse Conference 4A team to defeat the league champion Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs during her senior season.

Notable: Locklear, a four-year varsity player, was a three-time All-Conference selection. She was named to the All-Tournament team in the Holiday Invitational her senior year and was one 3-pointer way from tying a tournament record in that category.

Knightdale coach Trent Bunn: “Lovely always knows how to lighten up the mood with her positive attitude and infectious smile,” Bunn said. “She is definitely a player you want to play with and not play against. ... I think Lovely will strive both academically and athletically in college. She’s truly bought into our motto this year, “Allergic 2 Average.” I’m so proud to have witnessed her growth over the past four years, however, she knows this is not the end. It’s just the beginning of greater things to come.”
