More honors for Bolling

Former Knightdale High quarterback Ben Bolling was one of a record five Campbell student-athletes to be named to the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society.

He was named alongside fellow seniors Jaylan Adlam, Dalton Dillon, Hunter Somerville and Andrew Yost to the list, made up of football players from all divisions of play who maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.

Bolling, an exercise and sports science major with a 3.47 GPA, is a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 3 honoree (2013, 2015). He picked up Academic All-Pioneer Football League honors for the third straight year in 2015.

Bolling starred at receiver at Campbell, where he finishes as the all-time leader in receiving yards (1,329) and receptions (100). He also is tied for the program lead in receiving touchdowns (8). He had receptions in 10 games last season (2016 yards) and also threw a touchdown pass in a win over Drake.

Batts makes all-Academic team

Former Knightdale High standout pitcher Daniel Batts was one of three UNC-Pembroke baseball players recently named to the 2016 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team.

To be eligible for the honor, a player must be a significant contributor, achieve a 3.3 cumulative GPA and complete a full academic year. Batts, an exercise and sports science major, boasts a 3.504 cumulative GPA.

He made 19 appearances including five starts for the UNC-P Braves this season, posting a 3-2 record and 38 strikeouts in 34-2/3 innings.

His first two wins came in relief. In his first win as a starter on April 10, he allowed three hits struck out three at Francis Marion.

Knightdale Dragons registration opens

Knightdale Dragons Pop Warner football and cheer registration is open at knightdaledragons.org. Youth ages 5 to 15 are eligible for flag football, tackle football and cheer and there will be an unlimited weight class this year for ages 11 through 14. Recruiting will take place at the Knightdale Walmart June 4 and July 16 and at Knightdale Dick’s Sporting Goods on other dates yet to be set. Swimmers wanted

The Zebulon Swim Team is seeking swimmers ages 3-18 for the summer season. Swimmers must be a member of Zebulon Swimming Pool in order to be on the team. A team kickoff meeting is set for Sunday, May 15 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Zebulon Swimming Pool. Evening practices start Monday, May 23 and practices will be mornings or evenings starting June 13. Soccer tryout dates set

United Soccer Club has several tryouts upcoming for its challenge-level teams. Tryouts for players born 2001-03 will be held May 9; tryout for players born 2004-06 will be held May 10; and tryouts for players born 2007-09 will be held May 12.
