Weather again proved to be an obstacle for local Tarheel Swimming Association teams last week, when two of the three squads had their meets delayed from Tuesday to Wednesday and only one of them completed a full meet.
The three area teams compete in the association’s Northern League. TSA teams are placed in different divisions, based on past records, competing against teams in their own division and often those one division up or down.
Competition is broken down into six age groups for both boys and girls, ranging from 6 years and under to 18-year-olds.
Swimmers ages 6 and under are only allowed to compete in two races that count for points, making them double winners at best. All other age groups can swim in three events that count for points, making them eligible as triple winners.

Thunder forced an hour-long delay for the Planter’s Walk Piranhas in their Division 7 home meet against the Southall Seahorses on Tuesday. They made it through the backstroke before more thunder forced the meet to be completed Wednesday, with Southall coming out on top, 259-229.
Kellen Heaney (freestyle, backstroke) was a double winner for Planter’s Walk; the team’s triple winners were Jadon Valles and Evan Peters (freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly).
The Wendell Waves and Crabtree Swim Machine were unable to complete their Division 9 meet in full – even on Wednesday – due to stormy weather. The meet was called in the middle of the butterfly, with Crabtree holding a 195-175 edge.
Jacob Aston was a double winner for the Waves, in the freestyle and breaststroke events.
The Zebulon Dolphins also had a shortened home meet Tuesday. They couldn’t finish the breaststroke before a storm ended their Division 9 meet with the Hawthorne Stingrays, who won 214-131.
Double winners for Zebulon were Spencer Davis (freestyle, backstroke) and Morgan Sawyer (freestyle, breaststroke).
The final meets of the TSA season are scheduled for Tuesday, July 19.
Planter’s Walk hosts rival Black Horse Run, which is unbeaten this summer and has already clinched the Division 7 crown. The Piranhas defeated the Mustangs with the division title on the line last year, but they’ll face a Black Horse Run team that is nearly twice their size on Tuesday.
Wendell closes out the season with a home meet against the Harmony Hammerheads, a Division 13 team in the TSA’s Southern League.
Zebulon’s final meet will be on the road against fellow Division 9 member Raleigh Racquet Club.
