The Wendell Parks and Recreation Department has had a case of the blues this summer, but not the bad kind.
Both the Wendell Blue 7-8 All-Star baseball team and the Wendell Blue 9-10 All-Star baseball team won their respective district tournaments to earn the right to compete in the upcoming Tar Heel Leagues state tournament.
The Wendell Blue 7-8 players had little trouble claiming the title in their Tar Heel Leagues District 6 tournament, held July 11-16 in Wendell.
The team went undefeated in four tournament games, defeating Louisburg (12-1), GBI Yancey (12-1), GBI Hale (7-0) and GBI Hale a second time (11-2) to claim the crown out of a field of eight teams that also included Knightdale, Rolesville, Wendell White and Zebulon.
