Garner Optimist essay winners named

The Garner Optimist Club has announced the winners of its 2012-13 essay contest. They are Anna Phillips, Graham Wilkins and Jordan Marie Robinson. This year’s theme was “How Can I Help My Friends Realize Their Value?”

Phillips’ essay advances to the district competition, made up of winners from Optimist clubs in the N.C. East District. A $2,500 college scholarship will go to the district winner.

“Anna did a wonderful job of articulating this year’s theme,” said Jack Austin, president of the Garner Optimist Club. “She expressed herself well through the essay and deserved the honor of first place.”

Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service-club organizations, with 93,000 adult and youth members in 3,200 clubs throughout the world. With the motto “Bringing Out the Best in Kids,” Optimist clubs conduct service projects that reach more than 6 million young people every year.
