An Amtrak train collided with a car Wednesday night at a Garner crossing, and police charged the auto driver, who was unhurt, with DWI.
The crash happened at 10:21 p.m., an Amtrak spokeswoman said.
Police charged the driver, James William Harrington, 24, of 314 N. Gaylee Lake Road, near Wendell, with driving while impaired, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting an officer.
He got out of the car before the crash, officials said.

The train was Amtrak’s Silver Star going from New York to Miami, the spokeswoman said.
No one on the train was hurt.
Garner police had closed the intersection Wednesday afternoon while a crew repaired the crossing arms there, but Lt. Christopher Clayton said that played no role in the crash.
The tracks cross Vandora Springs Road just west of its “T” intersection with West Garner Road.
The train was delayed for about two and a half hours while police investigated, then continued on to Miami, the spokeswoman said.
Harrington was held overnight in the Wake County Detention Center on $2,000 bail.
