Garner police searched Lake Benson Park on Monday for a missing 26-year-old man whose car they found there late Sunday.
James Joseph Hipp, who police said lives in a mobile home park on Pamela Drive, a Raleigh address in unincorporated Wake County, was considered “endangered,” Lt. Chris Clayton said.
Hipp was described as being white, 5-foot-10, with green eyes and black hair.
Police had sent a Twitter message to alert the public that, “Lake Benson Park will be closed this morning due to the missing person investigation.”

Clayton said an officer saw a car in the parking lot at the park about 10 p.m. while on patrol, then returned and found it still there about 10:30 after answering another call.
Officers lock the park at night, so they contacted Hipp’s parents and were told they did not know of any reason their son would be at the park, Clayton said.
Police then looked inside the car, found something that made them think Hipp might try to harm himself and began the search along with Wake County sheriff’s deputies.
The search was covering both land and water in the park, Clayton said.
