The Relay for Life of Johnston County will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Smithfield Selma High School, 700 E. Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield.
The event will be an overnight fundraising walk in which participants will take turns walking around the track and camp out nearby. The Relay for Life is free and open to the public. There will be food, games and activities, as well as entertainment. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
Teams and individual sponsors will raise money in preparation for the event. The South Johnston High School team will sponsor “Cancer Out Game” from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at South Johnston High. There will be a survivor walk during the game, as well as other fundraisers throughout the games. For details, contact April Johnson at 919-894-3146 ext. 1338.
Survivor Sunday will be on Sunday, March 1, in the various churches around Johnston County. Cancer survivors of the churches will be recognized at these services.

At the event June 5, an opening ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the survivor’s walk at 7 p.m. and the caregiver’s walk at 7:30 p.m. A luminaria ceremony will begin at 9 p.m. For details, go to relayforfife.org/johnstonnc.
