‘Wake is great’ contest
Wake County is hosting the “Wake is Great” Instagram contest through Sunday, July 21. Wake County residents and visitors are invited to follow Wake County on Instagram and upload photos that they believe best portray how Wake is great. Tag the images with the hashtag #wakeisgreat. The Johnston County Register of Deeds office, is organizing a public shredding event 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, in the Edwards IGA parking lot, 721 N. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield. Car seat safety checks
Trained staff members from Wake County Human Services will make safety checks on child car seats from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Aug. 29, in the parking lot at the Southeast Regional Library.
The Lake Benson boathouse has opened for the season at 975 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays, and noon- 7 p.m. Sundays. It will be closed on Fridays in July and August.
