The Rotary Club of Central Johnston County wants to collect enough school supplies to fill a bus and they are accepting donations 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Wal-Mart on Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield.
Club members will be at the merchandise and grocery entrances of the store and by a school bus in the parking lot collecting donated supplies. The Salvation Army will distribute the supplies to local children.
This is the third year the club has filled a bus with school supplies, according to project coordinator Keith Dimsdale. As a service-oriented club, they want to make sure that children start school with “nice and necessary supplies,” Dimsdale said. The club relies on the generosity of the community, which in the past has been tremendous, Dimsdale notes.
Supplies needed include pencils, crayons, small and large glue sticks, Ziploc bags, pencil boxes, hand sanitizer, sheet protectors, index cards, cap erasers, ruled notebook paper, composition notebooks, liquid soap, pencil pouches, colored pencils, sticky notes and graph paper.
