Hanging of the Green

Johnston County Festival of Trees
The 10th annual Festival of Trees, presented by Keep Johnston County Beautiful Inc., will open to the public at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Johnston Medical Mall on Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield. The event will run until noon Saturday, Dec. 14. The festival is a display of 55 decorated Christmas trees sponsored by various businesses in the county. Live performances for visitors by school and church choirs, soloists, and other music and dance groups are scheduled throughout the festival. Other attractions include a cookie baking contest at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, and a Christmas tree raffle valued at $1,000 set to take place Saturday, Dec. 14.

Pancakes with Santa
The youths of Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church will host a pancake fundraiser from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Wright Fellowship Hall at 4926 Fayetteville Road, Raleigh. Pancakes with Santa will include pancakes, sausage links, orange juice or coffee, and a photograph with Santa that will be emailed to participants. The cost is $3 for children and $5 for adults. Craft and vendor show
Johnston County 4-H will host a Merry Market Craft and Direct Sales vendor show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Johnston County Agriculture Building, 2736 N.C. 210, Smithfield. Over 40 vendors with a wide variety of items will be there. There will also be pony rides, fresh Fraser fir wreaths, live demonstrations, hot soup and sandwiches in the Clover Cafe, photos with Santa, hourly door prizes and custom bow making. PTSA holiday fair
The Garner Magnet High School PTSA will have a holiday fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the high school, 2101 Spring Drive, Garner. Over 100 local crafters and vendors will be present at the fair. Pictures can be made with Santa Claus, and breakfast and lunch will be served by the Garner Marching Band and Mighty Trojan Club.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life 50-210 Fire Department Team will host a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Andy’s Highway 55 Burgers & Shakes, 152 Bratton Drive, Garner. Members of the team will be selling tickets for $5 per plate, or tickets can be purchased at the door. Wonder: The Stories and Songs of Christmas
Local pop-pianist Dawn Michelle Williams and local radio personality Bill Jordan will perform “Wonder: The Songs and Stories of Christmas” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Garner Performing Arts Center, 742 W. Garner Road, Garner. The show pairs Williams’ dynamic music with excerpts from local author Marianne Jordan’s new book, “The First Christmas Carol,” narrated by Bill Jordan. Supported by a full band and children’s choir, the performance will include well-known Christmas carols, along with lesser-known tunes.
