Dance teams take Center Stage

The Center Stage School of Performing Arts dance teams, soloist and duet/trio dancers attended the Nexstar Dance Competition in Greensboro during the weekend of March 21-23. Center Stage, which has a studio in Garner, had a number of duets and solos place in the overalls of the competition, with their dancers also winning their individual categories.

Duets with top overall five placements included Mini Division: Platinum 1st overall clogging trio Gretchen Sargent, Hannah Poplin and Mackenzie Penney; Platinum 5th overall clogging duet Gabi Allen and Kailee Midgette; and Platinum 3rd overall open solo Kailee Midgette.

In the Junior Division: Platinum 4th overall tap duet Madison Kidd and Sarah Deming; and Platinum 3rd overall tap solo Isabella White. In the Senior Division, Platinum 5th overall for lyrical duet Carey Barnette and Rachel Petherbridge, Platinum 4th overall for contemporary duet Carey Barnette and Benji Martin, a Platinum 3rd overall for tap duet Carey Barnette and Lauren Sago, Platinum 2nd place overall for hiphop duet Benji Martin and Vanessa Anderson, Platinum 3rd overall lyrical soloist Rachel Petherbridge, Platinum 2nd overall hip hop soloist Benji Martin, and Platinum 1st overall contemporary soloist Carey Barnette.

The group members also received high honors during the competition. The junior clogging team, with their Revenge of the Nerds number, won a Platinum 1st overall in the 9-11 large group category. This routine also garnered a choreography award for instructor Meredith Holland. The combined junior and senior jazz teams won a Platinum 1st place overall award in the ages 12-14 line category for their dance to Lady Gaga's Applause, along with receiving an overall best costume award for the competition. The highest performing group number of the day was the Elite Jazz team's Cell Block Tango, which won Platinum 1st place overall for ages 15 - 19 and a choreography award for instructor Meredith Etheridge.
