Movie camping night

The inaugural Crawfish Festival will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Aversboro Restaurant and Sports Bar, 1411 Aversboro Road, Garner. Proceeds from the festival will go to charities such as the N.C. Food Bank, ARC of Wake County, Pediatric Cancer, Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Corn hole fundraiser
A corn hole fundraiser tournament will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Aversboro Bar and Restaurant, 1411 Aversboro Road, Garner. Team registration is $30. Lunch plates are available for $5. The event will also include free children’s activities, live music, raffles and silent auctions. Proceeds from the event benefit the Captain Joseph House Foundation, which serves the families of deceased veterans.
Free HRD class
A fee-waived HRD class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 20-29, at Johnston Community College’s main campus in Smithfield. The 16-hour class will be free for those who are unemployed or underemployed; otherwise it is $70. The class will focus on general job requirements, necessary skills and responsibilities of the personal and home care professional, as well as a layman’s CPR class. • Motheread is a 12-week self-paced program that combines the teaching of literacy skills with child development and family empowerment issues.
