Memorial Day ceremony

Garner VFW Post 10225 will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony 11:15 a.m. May 27, at Montlawn Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, 2911 S. Wilmington St. Raleigh. The guest speaker is Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams.

Town of Garner seeks volunteers

The Garner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking volunteers for its Independence Day celebration Wednesday, July 3, at Lake Benson Park, 921 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Volunteers are needed to help in setup, cleanup, arts and crafts and games. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. They will receive a free T-shirt and meal. Library programs

Southeast Regional Library in Garner has scheduled the following programs. The library is at 908 Seventh Ave.

A discussion of the mystery genre is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 24. The program, with snacks provided, is for adults, who are encouraged to bring a copy of their favorite mysteries for recommendation. For more information, visit or call 919-662-2250.

Boathouse opens

The Lake Benson boathouse has opened for the season at 975 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Hours are noon-7 p.m. Fridays, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays and noon- 7 p.m. Sundays. It will be closed on Fridays in July and August. Boat rentals start at $4 an hour. No private boats are allowed. Free fishing is available from the dock. Overeaters Anonymous

Summer camps

Design a video game or create a website. Learn what it’s like to run a business.

Wake Tech Community College will offer summer camps for middle and high school students. Topics include engineering, youth entrepreneurship, video-game design, robotics, drama, photo editing, biotechnology and website creation. Visit or call 919-866-5820.
