Photography workshop

The Professional Photographers of North Carolina will hold its Spring Seminar at Johnston Community College 3-6 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the Selma Railroad Depot; 9-4 p.m. Sunday, at Johnston Community College Art Building, 245 College Road, Smithfield; 4 p.m.-until, at Howell Woods and 8:30 p.m.-3 p.m. Monday, at the JCC Art Building.

Triathlon

The Chick-fil-A 3 Little Pigs Triathlon is 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 Booker Dairy Road. The competition includes a 250-yard pool swim, 14-mile bike, and 3.1 mile run. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Park and the Rotary Club of Central Johnston County. Town of Garner seeks volunteers

The Garner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking volunteers for its Independence Day celebration Wednesday, July 3, at Lake Benson Park, 921 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Volunteers are needed to help in setup, cleanup, arts and crafts and games. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. They will receive a free T-shirt and meal. Band concert

The 440th Army Band will be in concert 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium, 245 College Road, Smithfield. The free concert is in honor of Independence Day. Donations will be accepted to benefit the performing arts programs at JCC.

Library programs

Southeast Regional Library in Garner has scheduled the following program. The library is at 908 Seventh Ave.

A discussion of the mystery genre is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 24. The program, with snacks provided, is for adults, who are encouraged to bring a copy of their favorite mysteries for recommendation. For more information, visit www.wakegov.com/libraries/events or call 919-662-2250.

Boathouse opens

The Lake Benson boathouse has opened for the season at 975 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Hours are noon-7 p.m. Fridays, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays and noon- 7 p.m. Sundays. It will be closed on Fridays in July and August. Boat rentals start at $4 an hour. No private boats are allowed. Free fishing is available from the dock. Overeaters Anonymous

An Overeaters Anonymous support group meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Lakeside Drive and N.C. 50 in Garner. Park in the rear of the church and look for the OA signs. Call Sherylyn at 919-779-6392 or Regina at 919-614-3425.

Summer camps
