Garner High School class of 1970 reunion
The Garner Senior High School class of 1970 will hold its 45-year class reunion from 7 p.m. until midnight on Saturday, June 13, at Carol Poole Clubhouse at Lonnie Poole Golf Course, NCSU Centennial Campus, 1509 Main Campus Drive, Raleigh. ‘Love your money’ Lunch and Learn
A five-part financial workshop will be offered from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning May 6 and concluding June 3 at the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, 305 E. Market St., Smithfield. Jayne McBurney of Johnston Cooperative Extension will lead the workshop and cover topics including budgeting, understanding credit and planning for the future. Free document shredding event
A secure document shredding event will be held from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, May 9, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2100 Buffaloe Rd., Garner. Teen volunteers needed
The Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, located at 305 E. Market St. in Smithfield, seeks new teen volunteers to assist with the Summer Reading Program. Volunteers will assist with children’s summer programming, shelving books and keeping books in order. Volunteers must fill out an application and attend an orientation from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. Teens ages 12-18 may see Emily Campbell at the children’s desk to pick up an application or email email@example.com.

The Garner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking volunteers for its Independence Day celebration Wednesday, July 3, at Lake Benson Park, 921 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Groups or individuals wishing to volunteer should contact Jill McAllister at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Aversboro Run Club
Aversboro Run Club meets at 6 p.m. every Thursday outside Aversboro Restaurant & Sports Bar, 1411 Aversboro Road, Garner. The club is open to runners and walkers, and runs set routes of 3, 4 and 5 miles covering many paces. The restaurant offers food and drink specials to all walkers and runners upon their return.
Johnston County MS Support Group
The Johnston County MS Support Group meets at 11 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at The Church at Clayton Crossings, 11407 US Hwy 70 W. Clayton. The group is open to those dealing with MS and their families and is free of charge.
A food pantry is open from 9 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of each month at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 1082 Amelia Church Road, Clayton. Food is free to anyone presenting an ID card. For more information, call 919-934-0213.
Partnership for Children of Johnston County offers two programs for parents with young children.
Motheread is a 12-week self-paced program that combines the teaching of literacy skills with child development and family empowerment issues.
The Incredible Years parent program offers weekly group sessions for 14 to 16 weeks. Participants practice skills to promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills.

The group provides support, shares information about healthy living and celebrates success with weight loss. Participants pay $32 for yearly national dues and $3 monthly local dues.
