The residents of Garner should be up in arms with their leaders’ incessant quest to expand the bureaucracy and scope of the city government. I’ve lived in neighboring unincorporated Wake County because I did not want the high tax base and the tax-and-spend mentality of neighboring Cary.
In the last 7 plus years, I have sadly witnessed Garner becoming the next Cary, with rampant, poorly planned growth, and a constant litany of ‘necessary’ bond measures, fees and tax increases for everything under the sun.
It is shameful and those serving on the city council should be forced to resign for their reckless use of tax-payer monies. The latest scam is a recommended tax increase to support the ‘necessary infrastructure’ that comes with growth.
This is an enormous boondoggle as additional growth brings additional revenue. Instead of being introspective and respectful of the economic plight of residents, they green-light tax increase after tax increase to get everything from a police force grossly over-staffed to needless fire stations.
Eventually, this scenario will backfire, and people and businesses will move elsewhere. Residents should be extremely upset. Shame on the council members.
