While we appreciate the fact that Garner town council members want to address pay shortcomings within the fire department, we worry they are going too fast.
It’s nearly impossible to imagine that county commissioners – once a town has agreed to spend its own money – will agree to pay the town back for an expenditure it didn’t approve ahead of time.
Commissioner Matt Calabria’s words were less than optimistic from a Garner perspective. He’s taking a wait and see attitude and once the town spends that money, it’ll be much easier for the county to turn its back on the fire service.
