The holiday prep basketball tournament offerings kick into high gear on Saturday, Dec. 27, with a dozen area teams participating in events.

The biggest event on the calendar is the Cleveland Classic at Cleveland High School. The tournament features eight boys and eight girls teams and runs from Dec. 27-30. In the field are local schools Clayton, West Johnston and Cleveland (of course), along with North Raleigh Christian, Fuquay-Varina, Nash Central, Southern Nash and Rolesville.

Play begins at 10 a.m. on Dec. 27, 29 and 30 with eight games daily. The championship games are on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 7 p.m. for the girls and 8:30 p.m. for the boys.

Garner’s boys are in the Holiday Invitational at Broughton High School in an eight-team bracket filled mainly with North Carolina teams. The Trojans take on Millbrook, the No. 1-ranked boys team in the area in the N&O poll, in their opener on Dec. 26 at 3:30 p.m.
