Friday Matchups

Enloe (0-3) at Garner (3-1), 7

Garner wraps up its nonconference slate against an Eagles team that surprisingly has scored the second-most points against the Trojans in the past two seasons combined (48). That’s mainly from a 42-point outing in a 62-42 loss in 2011 but Enloe’s total in the past two seasons is second only to Middle Creek’s 50 against Garner. With a still-developing defense, a good outing on that side of the ball bodes well as the Trojans get ready for conference play.

Wake Christian (1-3) at Hobbton (0-3), 7

Both teams enter the contest on three-game losing streaks so somebody’s getting well. Chances are it’s the team whose defense has the best night. Hobbton has given up 39 or more in each of its three losses, while the Bulldogs have given up a combined 110 points in its last three games. This is the first meeting between the two schools.

Cleveland (2-2) at Southern Wayne (2-2), 7:30

Cleveland gets together with what qualifies as an “longtime opponent” in former conference foe Southern Wayne. The Rams won both meetings when the two were in the Eastern Carolina 3A Conference together. Both teams are capable of scoring in bunches. Southern Wayne has scored 48 points or more in its two wins and averages just more than 40 a game.

Cleveland is averaging 33 a night but is giving up 42 on average. That needs to improve for the Rams to stay perfect against the Saints.

Taking a Break

West Johnston (2-2) and Southeast Raleigh (1-3) are idle this week.
