Cary tops Garner
Cary scored 26 points in the fourth quarter to down Garner in boys’ basketball 80-76 Monday night in both teams’ season opener.
Four Trojans finished in double figures in the loss, led by Thomas Allen’s 15 points.
Cary also won the girls’ game, 69-56, despite a 33-point night from Garner’s Khayani Chandler.

Garner’s boys’ team also fell to Northern Durham, 91-71, on Thursday night, giving up 55 points in the second half. Allen led the Trojans with 20 points in the loss.
The girls’ game between Garner and Northern was canceled because of a scheduling conflict.
Cleveland boys shine on defensive end
Cleveland held Fuquay-Varina to single-figure scoring in two quarters in a 52-36 boys’ basketball victory Tuesday night. Bobby Stenborg led the Rams with 17 points and Wayne Hatfield added 16.
The Bengals scored just seven points in both the second and third quarters.
Fuquay-Varina won the girls’ game, 47-38.
