Garner High School will hold its annual athletic hall of fame induction ceremony at 7 p.m. on May 2 at the Grand Marquise Ballroom. The 2013 class is made up of former Garner and current NBA basketball standout David West, former football standout and college coach Carl Franks Jr., state championship-winning quarterback and baseball standout Stacey Betts and former baseball coach Paul Faulk.
Tickets to the event are $50 per person and available from Garner athletic director Nelson Smith (919-662-2415).
Golf tournament: A four-person superball golf tournament will be held Friday, April 26, at 1 p.m. at River Ridge. The entry fee is $70 per person and includes all golf fees plus prize eligibility and a barbecue dinner. Hole sponsorships are also available. Rams take ECC golf lead: Cleveland grabbed the season lead in the Eastern Carolina 3A Conference boys golf race last week with a second place finish at Keith Hills Country Club. Southern Wayne won the match at 321, two strokes ahead of Cleveland.
The Rams now hold a one-stroke lead over South in the season-long championship race and are just four shots ahead of Southern Wayne.
Cleveland also won a five-team area non-conference boys golf match at Southern Wayne Country Club on Thursday.
The Rams finished at 332, 17 shots ahead of Rosewood.
Jared Lisec led Cleveland with an 80 on the afternoon.
Harnett Central trip postponed: Garner’s scheduled Friday night baseball game against Harnett Central is rescheduled for Wednesday, April 17, in Angier.
