Scramble for the Arts golf event

The seventh annual Scramble for the Arts golf tournament will be held May 3 at the Country Club of Johnston County. The four-person superball tournament begins at 12:30 p.m. and the entry fee is $60 per player, which includes all golf fees, prize eligibility and a post-round meal. HeartChase 2013 to honor Teem

The Clayton HeartChase 2013 will be held at 10 a.m. May 18 at Clayton Town Square. The event, which honors former Clayton High student-athlete Hogan Teem, is modeled after “The Amazing Race” and features teams of 2-5 completing heart healthy tasks to gain points. Clayton Road Race

The Clayton Road Race is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11. Registration for the 5K race is open, and the entry fee is $20 until race day ($25 on race day). The fee for a tenth-of-a-mile Tot Trot i $5. Trophies will be awarded to the top-three finishers in six age groups. Registration forms are available in the Clayton Parks and Recreation office, the Clayton Town Hall and Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library.

Pitch, Hit and Run

The Greater Cleveland Athletic Association will hold a free MLB-sponsored Pitch, Hit and Run competition at 1:30 p.m. May 5. For more information, send an email to

Johnston County Tennis Championships

The Johnston County Tennis Championships for levels 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 will be held June 14-16 at Smithfield Community Park and Smithfield-Selma High School. Johnston Horse Show Series

Johnston County Horse Show Series events will be held May 25, June 29, Aug. 3-4 (at Hunt Horse Complex), Sept. 21, Oct. 26 and Nov. 23 at the Johnston County Livestock Arena near Smithfield. N.C. Team Tournament Bass Trail

The Boats Unlimited N.C. Team Tournament Bass Trail is open for the spring season. There will be seven events and a championship event on June 22 at Falls Lake. Teams must compete in at least four events to be eligible for the championship and the $10,000 championship prize.
