Garner wins 21st of the season

Garner moved to 13-0 in Greater Neuse River 4A Conference boys basketball play on the season with a 79-63 victory over rival Southeast Raleigh Tuesday night. The Trojans pulled away in the second half, riding the scoring of Julius Barnes (a game-high 23 points) and JaShaun Smith (21).

Barnes played in his 100th career varsity game for Garner and left the contest 20 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Thomas Allen added 17 points for the Trojans (21-1) as well.

Southeast Raleigh girls clinch share

Southeast Raleigh’s girls clinched a share of the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference regular season basketball championship with a 66-22 romp by Garner on Senior Night Tuesday. Jade Phillips, a Syracuse University signee, led the Bulldogs with 17 points. N.C. State signee Amber Richardson had 13.

Southeast (20-3 overall, 12-1 conference) led 15-2 after the first quarter.
