Hoops tourneys surround Christmas holiday

Holiday basketball tournaments surround Christmas weekend in the area. Princeton will host four-team girls and boys tournaments beginning Monday with South Johnston, Jones County, Midway’s girls and Jones County’s boys.

Championship games are set for Tuesday at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Southeast Raleigh’s girls and Garner’s boys are both in the Holiday Invitational fields. Southeast opens against Durham Riverside on Dec. 26 at Cary Academy at 5:30. Garner opens against Panther Creek on the 26th at 8:30 at Broughton High.

The Cleveland Classic, a 16-team boys and girls tournament opens on Monday, Dec. 28. The girls field features Garner, Kinston, Southern Nash, Nash Central, Fuquay-Varina, Clayton, West Johnston and Cleveland. That championship game is Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The boys field has Sanderson, Durham Hillside, Southern Nash, Fuquay-Varina, Nash Central, Clayton, West and Cleveland. Their championship game is Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Play each day starts at 10 a.m.

Corinth Holders is in a holiday tournament at Bunn that week as well and Smithfield-Selma is in the Farris & Farris Holiday Classic in Wilson.
