Rolesville High ready to open

ROLESVILLE Faculty and students are scheduled to walk through the doors of the newly constructed Rolesville High School next month.

The Wake Schools system is putting the final touches on the four-floor building now, including installing equipment and furniture.

The 349,527 square-foot building can accommodate 2,262 students at full capacity, in 111 teaching spaces. In its first year, the school will have ninth and 10th grades and will add an 11th grade in 2014-2015 and a 12th grade in 2015-2016.

Downtown nightlife promotion Friday

RALEIGH The Raleigh MIX, a one-night party at about 20 downtown nightclubs and DJ venues, is planned for Friday.

The event is sponsored by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, which hopes it will draw attention to the city’s nightlife spots.

“The nightlife entertainment industry is very important to the economy of Wake County,” David Diaz, president and chief executive officer of the alliance, said in a statement.

NCSU textile center gets grant

RALEIGH An N.C. State textile center will receive a $1 million federal grant to research how to develop cutting-edge firefighting uniforms, Rep. David Price, D-N.C., said in a statement announcing the grant. .

The Textile Protection and Comfort Center will receive the $999,988 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Fire Prevention and Safety Program. T-PACC is the only academic center in the U.S. with the ability to research, test and evaluate the comfort and protection of textiles.

The research program aims to provide greater protections for first responders by using new and lighter textiles. From staff reports

James receives CFO award

RALEIGH Perry James, the city’s chief financial officer, received a CFO of the Year Award from the Triangle Business Journal last week.

The award recognizes outstanding financial executives who help their employer navigate changing local, national and global economies. Perry was one of 12 recipients and won in the government category.

James began his career with the city in March 1982. Since May, he has been interim city manager. From staff reports

City bike map now available

RALEIGH The public is encouraged to use and comment on a detailed map dedicated to the city’s bicycle facilities and routes.

The newly released BikeRaleigh map features on-road bicycle facilities, Capital Area Transit routes, greenway routes and popular destinations.

The map also includes a system of preferred routes selected based on cyclist feedback, conditions, destinations and connectivity.

The map was printed in limited quantities, so that changes suggested by the public can be considered before the final version is printed.

Copies are available at One Exchange Plaza, Suite 727, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. An interactive online map and a mobile application are coming soon. From staff reports
