Leesville building named after late principal

At its April 24 meeting, the Wake County school board approved a request to rename Leesville Road High School’s East Building after its first principal.

The newly dubbed Murphy Building is named in honor of Richard Murphy, at the request of the school’s Parent Teacher Student Association, the Pride Athletic Club and school staff. Murphy died of cancer at age 62 in March 2011.

Murphy was principal of Leesville Road High from 1993 to 2004. He also served as principal of Sanderson High School for nine years and at East Wake High School for one year.
