100 Black Men award scholarships

The Triangle East Chapter of the national organization 100 Black Men presented scholarships to nine male, African-American students from Wake County at its Eighth Annual Scholarship and Awards Gala: Alec Barner, Justin LeGrand Langford, Runako Reed and Louis Williams of Enloe Magnet High; Jalan Burton of Broughton High; Kahlil Perine of Fuquay Varina High, Zachery Thomas of Garner Magnet High; Christopher Carrington of Knightdale High; and Isaiah Avent of Wake Forest-Rolesville High. All of the students participated in the group’s mentor program.

Sertoma Club recognizes achievers

The Capital City Sertoma Club recognized 25 African-American students from Wake County with the highest grade point average in their graduating class at its Annual Academic Achievers Recognition Banquet.

A kindergarten open house is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Lynn Road Elementary School, 1601 Lynn Road, Raleigh. For more information, call 919-870-4074.

Carroll Middle to hold STEM Expo

A STEM Expo is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Carroll Middle School in Raleigh. The expo will inform the community about the science, technology, engineering and mathematics program and highlight STEM projects by students. The PTA will offer dinner on the lawn with Q Shack barbecue beginning at 5 p.m. Dinner is $6 in advance and $7 at the event. For more information, call 919-881-1370.
