N.C. Museum of History spotlights sports

The N.C. Museum of History will be catering to sports fans of all ages Saturday, June 9.

The museum’s free event “Celebrate North Carolina Sports” will feature NASCAR stock cars, athletes and hands-on activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the downtown Raleigh museum. Admission and parking are free.

Inside, the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame exhibit will teach about the state’s sports heroes. Kids can enjoy a scavenger hunt through the exhibit for a prize.

Outside on Bicentennial Plaza, performers will include the Carolina Roller Girls, the Bouncing Bulldogs jump rope team and cheerleaders from Raleigh Cheer Extreme All Stars Gym.

Activities will include a basketball-shooting challenge; baseball, table tennis, and flag rugby activities; making trading cards and NASCAR racing flags; putt-putt golf on a three-hole course; bocce; rounders; tastings of tailgating dishes; a cheerleading mini-clinic and North Carolina sports trivia.

Individuals from sports-related organizations and businesses will attend, including the Carolina Hurricanes; N.C. Amateur Soccer Association; RDU Sting Semi-Professional Women’s Basketball; ABA Carolina Jaguars, Cougars and Cheetahs; Raleigh Rugby Football Club; Special Olympics North Carolina; 99.9FM The Fan sports radio station; and Raleigh Parks and Recreation.
