Canes Summer Fun Fest
The fifth annual Canes Summer Fun Fest will start at 5:30 p.m. Friday at PNC Arena. The event inside the arena will include inflatables, games, giveaways, speakers from the Hurricanes and appearances by Stormy and the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad. Fans will be able to take photos on the team bench, in the penalty box and with the Olympias. Parking and admission are free.
Raleigh will celebrate its Playful City USA award at a Play Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Biltmore Hills Park, 2615 Fitzgerald Drive, Raleigh. Play Day will feature games, prizes, food vendors and entertainment. Playful City USA, a national recognition program sponsored by Kaboom, honors cities that show they are committed to getting children active, playing and staying healthy. Second Chance open house
Second Chance is holding an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Second Chance Pet Adoptions, 6003 Chapel Hill Road, Raleigh. The event will include an opportunity to view the newly renovated facilities and cats and dogs available for adoption. Ice cream will be served, and vendors such as Pampered Chef and Lia Sophia will sell items with a portion of the proceeds will support the rehabilitation and rescue programs of the shelter. Iris sale at arboretum
The Eastern N.C. Iris Society will hold its seventh annual sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the JC Raulston Arboretum, 4415 Beryl Road, Raleigh. The sale will feature many varieties, including bearded, beardless and reblooming for $5-$10. Members will answer questions about growing irises in our region and will offer free printed information on planting, digging and dividing established iris plants.
