Finding fairies at Yates Mill Park

A Mid-Summer Day Dream is set for 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Historic Yates Mill County Park, 4620 Lake Wheeler Road, Raleigh. Take a short walk around the millpond, build a fairy house and have a snack. Course on home firearms safety

Wake County will offer a four-hour course on home firearm safety from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the County’s Firearms Education and Training Center, 3921 Old Holly Springs-Apex Road, Apex. Program explores tango in N.C.

History à la Carte: Tango! The Song! The Dance! The Obsession! is scheduled from 12:10 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the N.C. Museum of History, 5 E. Edenton St., Raleigh. William McNeill, N.C. Humanities Council Road Scholar, will explore the growing popularity of tango in North Carolina. The program will include a piano performance, lecture and dance demonstration. Bring a lunch; beverages will be provided.

Buchan at Quail Ridge

Jonathan Buchan, a former journalist and attorney specializing in First Amendment rights, will read from and sign copies of “Code of the Forest” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Quail Ridge Books & Music, 3522 Wade Ave., Raleigh.

Crape Myrtle Fest

The 32nd annual Crape Myrtle Fest Grand Gala is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday in the Memorial Auditorium Lobby at the Progress Energy Center, 2 E. South St., Raleigh. The event will include a silent auction and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Cost is $25 in advance and $30 at the door, or $20 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.crapemyrtlefest.org. Proceeds will benefit local HIV/LGBT organizations.
