New Parent Academy workshops
Wake County schools will provide parents the opportunity to discuss helping students succeed at eight new Parent Academy workshops that will cover a wide range of topics.
The first session focuses on parent involvement at school. Students benefit from seeing the value their parents put on school and the steps parents take to help them get the most out of their classes. The session will be offered at Millbrook High on Tuesday, Aug. 28. The sessions run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will be presented in English and Spanish. Child care will be available for children ages 4-13.
Other workshop topics will include successful teacher conferences, supporting kindergarten students, understanding the new Common Core State Standards, navigating the school system, supporting literacy and math at home, understanding special education and understanding the U.S. school system.
