Red Cross scholarships open
The American Red Cross is accepting applications for the 2013 High School Heroes philanthropic leadership and scholarship program. From January through March, students compete for scholarships by raising money and awareness for the Red Cross Triangle Chapter.

The top three fundraisers earn scholarships of $5,000, $2,000 and $1,000. Four other fundraisers earn $500 scholarships. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on April 12. Scholarships are made possible by The Grainger Foundation with additional program support by Wells Fargo.
Applications are due by Friday, Dec. 14, and can be picked up from high school guidance counselors or downloaded online at www.TriangleRedCross.org. Completed applications should be returned to local Red Cross coordinator Mira Batchelor at email@example.com or 919-277-2802.
Enloe High Charity Ball
Enloe High School’s Student Council is holding its eighth annual Charity Ball from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Marbles Kids Museum, 201 E. Hargett St., Raleigh. The event will include live music, a dessert bar and a drink bar with nonalcoholic beverages for sale.
Tickets are $25. All proceeds will go to Interact, a charity that provides safety, support and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. For tickets or more information, visit www.enloe.stuco.com.
Cape Fear River Watch contest
Cape Fear River Watch is offering a scholarship essay contest for high school seniors.
The contest, meant to promote interest in environmental conservation, was created to engage students pursing college majors in environmental sciences, biology and wildlife and habitat conservation, as well as to give financial aid for tuition.

Scholarships for children of veterans
The N.C. Division of Veterans Affairs offers college scholarships to children of N.C. war veterans. The application deadline is March 1. Interested students should contact their local Veterans Service Office by visiting www.doa.nc.gov/vets/locations.
