Feed the Need 2012: Help us fight childhood hunger

Did you know that one child in four in our community will go hungry tonight? Won’t you join The N&O in making a difference for hungry kids? Support Feed the Need, our annual community service project that benefits the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. In five years, Feed the Need has generated the equivalent of 1.19 million meals.

Here’s how you can help:

• Donate nutritious, nonperishable food in plastic or metal containers at area Harris Teeter stores through April 21; look for the Feed the Need collection bins at your neighborhood store.

• Visit

feedtheneednc.com

to donate online.

• Send a check to support the Food Bank’s Kids Meals and More program. Here’s what your donation will provide:

Kids Cafe:

Kids get nutritious after-school meals, plus academic and health education. A donation of $100 will provide 75 meals.

Weekend Powerpack: On Fridays, kids get a backpack filled with enough food for their weekend nutrition. A donation of $50 will fill a backpack for nine weekends.

Kids Summer Meals: This provides breakfast and lunch, including fresh fruits, for kids who depend on school meals. A donation of $75 will sponsor one child’s meals for half the summer.

Please send checks, made payable to Feed the Need to Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, 3808 Tarheel Drive, Raleigh N.C. 27609.

Donations are tax-deductible, and gifts of any amount are appreciated.

Feed the Need 2012 sponsors are The News & Observer, Syngenta, Harris Teeter, Curtis Media Radio stations and ABC-11 WTVD.
