Jimmy V Classic

Volunteers are needed for the 20th annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic to be held Aug. 23-25 at North Ridge Country Club, 6612 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh. Volunteers must be 16 years old or older, and the most-needed positions are marshals, transportation and standard bearers. Tutors needed

The Wade Edwards Learning Lab seeks volunteers to tutor high school students. Information sessions will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, and 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5. For more information, contact Betsey McFarland at 919-856-9233 or bmcfarland@wade.org.

Activate Raleigh Day

The second Activate Raleigh Day of Service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, throughout Raleigh and the Triangle. More than 1,500 volunteers are needed to work on 40 service projects in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedies. Projects will include blood donations, home improvements, beautifying schools and education centers, public art installations and environmental protection. To participate as a group or company, call 919-578-2280 or email volunteer@activategood.org. Individuals can register at www.activategood.org beginning Aug. 14.

Big sweep

Wake County Big Sweep will hold a cleanup day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center, 950 Peterson St., Raleigh. Volunteers can register at 919-831-1960. Bring long pants, closed-toe shoes, gloves, a hat and a water bottle.

Wine, Women and Shoes

Volunteers are needed for Wine, Women and Shoes, a charity event that benefits Communities In Schools of North Carolina. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, at Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh. Volunteers are needed to help with the fashion show, copywriting, social media and more. For more information or to volunteer, visit www.cisnc.org.

City of Oaks Marathon

The sixth annual City of Oaks Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 3, seeks volunteers to monitor the course, distribute race packets and help with setup and tear-down. ESL volunteers

The English as a Second Language program seeks volunteers to teach ESL classes, help with office work and program promotion. Knowledge of another language is not required to participate. Special Olympics

Special Olympics Wake County seeks volunteers to help during training and competitive events. Volunteers assist as event officials, athlete escorts, coaches, award presenters and more. Garden work

Volunteers 16 and older are needed for the Deadheaders Program at Raleigh Rose Garden, 301 Pogue St., Raleigh. Volunteers adopt rose beds and deadhead weekly. For more information or to volunteer, contact Cindy Trumbower at 919-996-3292 or cindy.trumbower@raleighnc.gov.

Calvin’s Paws

Calvin’s Paws, a nonprofit organization focused on the rescue and adoption of cats and dogs, is seeking volunteers. Volunteers are needed for animal transport, adoption counseling, and administrative and fundraising activities. Foster homes and donations are also needed. Senior assistance – Help the Activity Director at the Uni-Health Acute-Care Facility, 2420 Lake Wheeler Road, Raleigh.

Habitat for Humanity – Volunteer as a member of the Hospitality Team or help build or deconstruct homes.

Crisis Center – Answer phones, conduct interviews and lend a caring ear at the Crisis Center at North Raleigh Ministries, 9650 Strickland Road, Raleigh.

International Festival

Volunteers are needed for poster distribution and outreach for the International Festival of Raleigh. For more information, visit www.internationalfestival.org.

WF guest services

Wake Forest seeks volunteers to work at the guest services desk in the lobby of town hall. Duties will include greeting visitors on the phone and in person and directing them to their destination. Volunteers are expected to work two three-hour shifts per month. Volunteers must attend an orientation to learn about guest desk responsibilities, participate in a tour of town hall and submit a background check form. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle seeks volunteers for a range of activities. Get your hands dirty at the teaching farm, deliver food to people in need, or lead cooking classes and demonstrations. For more information, visit www.foodshuttle.org.

Foster homes for cats

Snowflake Animal Rescue, a nonprofit group, is seeking foster homes for cats in need. For more information, go to www.snowflakerescue.org or call 919-990-2478.

Second Chance pet rescue

Second Chance Pet Adoptions seeks volunteers to assist at its no-kill shelter. Clean cat rooms, wash dogs and offer foster care. For more information, visit www.secondchancenc.org or call 919-851-8404.

Greenway patrol

The Raleigh City Council has approved a volunteer program for residents interested in patrolling greenways. The program is designed to promote greenway courtesy and safety, provide information to the public and summon aid for greenway users. Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

The Carolinas chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is looking for volunteers to help with fundraising and events. For more information, call 919-845-2155 or visit www.cff.org/Chapters/carolinas.

Dogs, cats and rabbits

The SPCA of Wake County needs volunteers for various activities at adoption centers and events. Help with kittens, puppies and rabbits. For more information, visit www.spcawake.org.

Drivers needed

The Center for Volunteer Caregiving is looking for volunteers to drive seniors to appointments, approximately 4-8 hours per month. Call 919-460-0567 or visit www.volunteercaregiving.org for more information or to volunteer.

Teen court

The Capital Area Teen Court hears real cases involving youths ages 9-18. Teenagers ages 9-18 act as defense and prosecuting attorneys, bailiffs, court clerks and jurors. Middle or high school students in Wake County are eligible to volunteer for the sessions. For more information or to volunteer, visit www.capitalareateencourt.org
