‘Art’ at Little Theatre

Raleigh Little Theatre presents Yasmina Reza’s “Art,” a comedy where lines are drawn and old friends square off when one purchases a canvas that is just a pure white painting. Performances will be held at 3 or 8 p.m. Sunday Sept. 29 at the theater, 301 S. Pogue St., Raleigh. Tickets cost $20 for adults, $16 for seniors and students. Jerusalem String Quartet

America’s Music Series

America’s Music film and music series will be held through October at North Regional Library, 7009 Harps Mill Road, Raleigh. The upcoming schedule is:

Oct. 6 – 2 p.m. Learn choreography from the Broadway show “In the Heights.”

Oct. 10 – 7 p.m. Portions of two films will be viewed and discussed: “Latin Music USA, Episode 1” and “From Mambo to Hip-Hop: A South Bronx Tale.”

‘Arcadia’

The N.C. State University Theatre will open its 2013-2014 season with Tom Stoppard’s “Arcadia” through Oct. 6 at the Titmus Theatre, 2241 Dunn Ave., Raleigh. Herman Astro, free music

A Free Evening of Rock, Soul and Blues Featuring Herman Astro is scheduled for 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at The Pour House Music Hall, 224 S. Blount St., Raleigh. For more information, call 919-821-1120.

Fall perennials

The Plantsmen’s Tour of Fall perennials will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the J.C. Raulston Arboretum, 4415 Beryl Road, Raleigh. For more information, call 919-513-7005.

Art critique

An art roundtable and critique is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Artspace Visual Arts Center, 201 E. Davie St., Raleigh. The event is free for members, $5 for nonmembers. For more information, visit www.artspacenc.org.

Hoop jam

Hoopers, dancers, spinners and drummers are invited to the Raleigh Hoop Jam from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Pullen Park, 520 Ashe Ave., Raleigh. For more information, call 919-831-6468.

Call for artists

The city of Raleigh seeks artists or artist teams experienced in streetscape public art to work as art consultants for the Hillsborough Street Streetscape Phase II project. The design team artist will assist the project design team in concept and plan development for art and aesthetic integration for the overall project.

Qualifications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11. Seniors dance

Car show

A juried car show will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the N.C. Museum of Art, 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh. Atomic Rhythm All-Stars

The Wake Tech 2013 to 2014 Fine Arts Concert Series will begin with a performance by jazz band Atomic Rhythm All-Stars from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Wake Technical Community College, 6600 Louisburg Road, Raleigh. Tickets cost $10 at the door.

Irish music jam session

The PineCone Irish Jam session will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Tir na Nog Irish Pub, 218 S. Blount St., Raleigh. Musicians can bring instruments to play. For more information, call 919-833-7795.

Art and Cocktails

The Joel Lane Museum House will hold Art and Cocktails by the Pool from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at a private home in Five Points, Raleigh. The address will be disclosed to ticket purchasers after purchase confirmation. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and a silent auction. The cost is $75 per person. Russian, Roma music

The Music of the Carolinas series will continue with Zingaresca, a Russian and Roma music duo, which will perform from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at the N.C. Museum of History, 5 E. Edenton St., Raleigh. For more information, call 919-807-7850.

Harp guitar

Andy Kasab will perform eclectic American and world music with a harp guitar at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Cameron Village Regional Library, 1930 Clark Ave., Raleigh. Registration is requested at 919-856-6710.

Black Masala

Black Masala, an eight-piece gypsy music brass band, will play at 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Pour House Music Hall, 224 S. Blount St., Raleigh. Tickets cost $7 online and $10 at the door. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.thepourhousemusichall.com.

Membership drive

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy will hold a membership drive from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at CAM Raleigh, 409 W. Martin St., Raleigh. The film “Appalachian Impressions” will be screened, followed by guest speakers. There is a suggested donation of $30 per ticket, and children 13 and younger get in free. Call for artists

The Miriam Preston Block Gallery seeks applications for the 2014-2015 art exhibition series and installation artists.

Artists, artist teams and curators ages 18 and older residing in Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Orange or Wake counties are eligible to apply. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. For more information or to apply, visit www.raleighnc.gov/arts.

Halloween Safe Night

Halloween Safe Night at the Museum, a program for families with children ages 12 and younger, will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the N.C. Museum of History, 5 E. Edenton St., Raleigh. Search out candies and trick or treat at exhibits. For more information, call 919-872-9535, ext. 3069.
