United Arts Awards
United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce have named the recipients of the annual Business Support of the Arts Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the arts in the area by businesses, organizations and individuals.
Awards are given in four categories: large business, small business, individual and arts education. A special award – The Paladin Award – will also be presented during the 4th Annual State of the Arts and Culture in Wake County at 8 a.m. Jan. 14 at the North Carolina Museum of Art, 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh.
• The Large Business category winner, Allscripts, was nominated by the North Carolina Theatre Company and Marbles Kids Museum.
• The Small Business category winner is Senter, Stephenson, Johnson, PA, nominated by Ann-Marie Amico.
• The Individual Category winner is Robert C. Morrow, nominated by Margaret Partridge of the Philharmonic Association and Anthony P. Dowling of Eno River Media Productions.
• The winners of Arts Education are Bill Brown and Chris Droessler, who have provided lighting, sound, and logistical technical assistance for numerous events.
Call for authors
The Piedmont Laureate program has extended its deadline for applications from authors of short fiction for 2014 until Thursday, Jan. 9. Authors must be residents of Wake, Alamance, Durham or Orange counties. Guidelines, application form and further information are available at www.piedmontlaureate.com.
Model casting call
A model casting call has been put out for female models for the March 2014 Emerge Fashion Show. The call will take place at 1 p.m. Jan. 12 at Zinda New Asian, 301 Fayetteville St., Raleigh. National Arts Program
The 11th annual National Arts Program exhibition, featuring artwork by city of Raleigh and Wake County employees and their families, will be on display through Jan. 15 at the Miriam Preston Block Art Gallery, 222 W. Hargett St., Raleigh. For more information, call 919-996-3610.
Aviation art contest
The 2014 N.C. Aviation Art Contest is seeking entries. The deadline is Jan. 17. Participants ages 6-17 may enter two-dimensional artwork using permanent media depicting airplanes surveying disaster zones, dropping off relief supplies, flying crash victims and other similar activities. Art exhibit open
N.C. artist Louis St. Lewis will be the featured artist of the month for February at Roundabout Art Collective, 305 Oberlin Road, Raleigh. St. Lewis’ mixed media and assemblage creations are found in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art and the University of North Carolina's Ackland Art Museum.
