Raleigh’s Sunday in the Park concert series continues at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, with Triangle Taiko at Pullen Park Amusements, 520 Ashe Ave., Raleigh. The concert is free. Bring chairs, blankets or picnic baskets. No alcohol is permitted.
Music in the Valley
Crabtree Valley mall’s Music in the Valley is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at the mall, 4325 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh. Enjoy live music, drink specials and appetizers from nearby restaurants. Bring lawn chairs. Scheduled to perform are Crush, Sept. 26; Rubberband, Oct. 3; Party Nuts, Oct. 10; Scarlet, Oct. 17; and Magic Pipers, Oct. 24. A makeup date is scheduled for Oct. 31.

Emerging artists concert series
A concert series featuring emerging artists is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays through Oct. 12 at Fountain Park at the Captrust Tower, 4208 Six Forks Road, Raleigh. The following bands will play: Addison Prophet, Sept. 28; CrowField, Oct. 5; and Catie King, Oct. 12.
Sertoma Arts Center accepting proposals
The Sertoma Arts Center is accepting proposals for the 2013 gallery year. Artists 18 or older who live and/or work in Wake County and surrounding areas are invited to submit. The gallery has introduced hundreds of artists to area residents and visitors since the inception of the Gallery Program. Monthly exhibitions will be scheduled. Applications are due Sept. 30. Chosen artists will be notified by Oct. 31.

‘Curio’ exhibition at Municipal Building
“Curio,” an art exhibition sponsored by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission, will be on display Oct. 4 to Nov. 13 at the Miriam Preston Block Art Gallery in the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett St. This is the fifth exhibition of the Block Art Gallery 2012 Exhibition Series.
An opening-day reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the gallery. Music will be provided by Tuff Love in Dub.
Featured in “Curio” are paintings by Chance Murray, Christina Preher and Ellie Reinhold and glasswork by Lucartha Kohler. Block2 Video Series, curated by Neill Prewitt, will air “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” by Marc Russo.
Broadway Under the Stars free event
Broadway Under the Stars will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Red Hat Amphitheater. The event will feature appearances from local groups performing Broadway songs, face-painting, jugglers and magicians. The lineup includes Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble, Peace University Musical Theater, Performance Edge and Raleigh Little Theater. Downtown Family Get Down
The Downtown Family Get Down will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, with Sandbox, a five-piece Raleigh band featuring upbeat kids’ music. Mommie, featuring Doug McMillan from The Connells, and other bands will perform. At about 8 p.m., Michael Franti and Spearhead will take the stage for a set of socially conscious, energetic music. Sertoma and Pullen Arts Fair
The annual Sertoma and Pullen Arts Fair is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, outdoors at Pullen Arts Center, 105 Pullen Road, Raleigh. The free event will include vendors, art exhibits, demonstrations, kids’ activities and music from the Clear Run Bluegrass Band.
