Raleigh Soroptimists celebrate 25 years

Chartered on Nov. 21, 1987, Soroptimist International of Raleigh recently marked 25 years of helping to improve the lives of women and girls locally and globally.

Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane issued a proclamation naming Nov. 21, 2012, as Soroptimist International of Raleigh Day, recognizing Soroptimists’ efforts to improve the economic well-being of women and to raise awareness of human trafficking, domestic violence and teen dating abuse. The group also received a letter from Governor Beverly Purdue offering her congratulations and wishes for continued success.

Charter members Patricia Witt, Linda Drummond, Shirley Hall and Ruth Relos were honored for their outstanding dedication and service.

Autism Society chapter resource fair

The Wake County chapter of the Autism Society of North Carolina will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 100 W. Lochmere Drive, Cary. A Resource Fair will provide information about RDI Therapy, Voices Together, The Pathways Program at UNC, YMCA Camp Grace and Aspire (track out), iAspire HFA programs, Camp Royall and more. Summer camps fill up in February.

Holiday Social and Shop Event

FemCity Raleigh will hold its Holiday Social and Shop Event from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Kindred, 131 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh. Kindred is a nonprofit business that incubates emerging artisans through mentorship and a boutique. Registration fee is $10 for Femfessionals members, $15 for nonmembers. Friendship Force holiday party

The Friendship Force of Raleigh will hold a holiday party at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the N.C. State University Club, 4200 Hillsborough St., Raleigh. The club participates in exchanges with Friendship Force clubs in the United States and other countries to build understanding.
