Instructors needed for Rolesville programs

Rolesville’s Parks and Recreation Department is expanding its community classes in 2013 to include painting, photography, shag and dance lessons. Sertoma Arts Gallery exhibit

Sertoma Arts Gallery is featuring works by Nico Amortegui of Charlotte in large-scale abstract mixed media themes and local artists Shannon Newby in encaustics and Helen Seebold in ceramics. Blam! exhibit at Cameron Village library

Paintings by Blam! Studio artists Elke Brand, Jen Coon, Sys Oppenlander and Juley Striegel are on display at Cameron Village Regional Library throughout the month of December. The library is at 1930 Clark Ave., Raleigh.

Reception featuring Alice Osborn

A chocolate and wine reception featuring author Alice Osborn is set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at The Chocolate Boutique, 8480 Honeycutt Road, Suite 100, Raleigh. Osborn will read from “After the Steaming Stops.”

Call for authors of children’s literature

The Piedmont Laureate program has reopened its call for applications from authors of children’s literature for 2013. Authors must be residents of Alamance, Durham, Orange or Wake counties. The range of literature has been expanded to target children of all ages, up to 18. The deadline to apply is Jan. 11.

The 2013 Piedmont Laureate will be selected by a committee appointed by the sponsoring agencies. The laureate will receive a stipend of $6,500 and serve from March to the end of 2013. Activities will include presenting readings and workshops, encouraging creative writing, and promoting literature at public events.
