Furry 5k Run / 2k Walk

Second Chance Pet Adoptions will hold its third annual Furry 5k Run / 2k Walk on Saturday, Oct. 11, at WakeMed Soccer Park, 940 E. Chatham St., Cary. Visit SecondChanceNC.org for more information.

Karate classes

Karate Kenpo classes are offered from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for youth, and 7 to 8:30 p.m. for adults, at Millbrook Exchange Park, 1905 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh. Monthly fee is $45. The instructor is Bill Parsons of the Triangle Kenpo Institute.

Pickleball open play

Play pickleball from 8 to 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday, and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays on the tennis courts at Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St., Wake Forest. Pickleball is played on a badminton court with a lowered net, a perforated plastic baseball and wood paddles. It is easy to learn but can develop into a competitive game for experienced players.

Flag football

Each year from September through November, the Wake Forest Parks and Recreation Department partners with CenterPoint Sports to offer an Adult Flag Football League.

League games are played on Sunday afternoons from mid-September through early November.

For team entry information, contact Edward Austin at 919-435-9562.

Adult basketball leagues

Wake Forest Parks and Recreation offers 4-on-4 basketball leagues for adults both Over 35 and Under 35.

Registration costs $200 per team and is held in August. The leagues run September through November with Over 35 games on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Under 35 games on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Flaherty Park Community Center.
