5K and half-marathon

The Just Think 5K and Skinny Turkey Half Marathon will be held Thursday, Nov. 27, at Wakefield High School, 2200 Wakefield Pines Drive, Raleigh. Registration and packet pickup will be from 6 to 7:45 a.m.; the half-marathon will begin at 7:30 a.m.; and the 5K will begin at 8 a.m. Pre-registration is available at FSSeries.com.

Frostbite doubles

Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center will host its annual Frostbite Doubles tournament Dec. 12-14 at 1905 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh. The tournament features junior, adult and senior divisions, trophies for winners and finalists, T-shirts for all participants and more. Registration is $18 for a Raleigh resident and $25 for a non-resident. For details go to RaleighNC.gov.

Swim league

The Marlins of Raleigh Fall Swim League is a seven-week program designed to teach competitive swimming skills to swimmers ages 6-11. The program takes place at Ravenscroft School and St. Mary’s School. For details, go to MarlinsOfRaleigh.com or call 919-851-3000.

Basketball coaches needed

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is seeking responsible adults interested in volunteering one night a week and an hour on Saturdays to coach youth basketball teams of all age groups. Leagues are offered for boys and girls ages 5-17. Practices will get underway soon, and games will run from December through February at Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. Karate classes

Karate Kenpo classes are offered from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for youth, and 7 to 8:30 p.m. for adults, at Millbrook Exchange Park, 1905 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh. Monthly fee is $45. The instructor is Bill Parsons of the Triangle Kenpo Institute.

Pickleball open play

Play pickleball from 8 to 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays on the tennis courts at Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St., Wake Forest. Pickleball is played on a badminton court with a lowered net, a perforated plastic baseball and wood paddles. It is easy to learn but can develop into a competitive game for experienced players.

Flag football

Each year from September through November, the Wake Forest parks and rec department partners with CenterPoint Sports to offer an adult flag football league.

League games are played on Sunday afternoons from mid-September through early November.
