Pride football ranked in preseason polls

Leesville Road is ranked among the top 20 high school football teams in the North Carolina Prep Football News Yearbook.

The Pride, undefeated the past two season except for playoff losses to Garner, is No. 11.

The FNF North Carolina magazine has Leesville in its top 25, ranked No. 21.

Wood bat baseball: Stephen Scott, a rising junior at Cardinal Gibbons High, helped the Evoshield Canes 16U National Team to the Perfect Game 16U World Wood Bat baseball title last week in Marietta, Ga. The team went 12-0 in the 280-team tournament.

Scott hit .321 in the eight-day event and tied for the team lead in RBI with nine.

Migliaccio to Athens: Emilia Migliaccio, 14, one of the top girls’ golfers in the state, plans to enroll and play high school golf at Athens Drive this fall. She will be a freshman.

Migliaccio won the PKBGT UNC Classic and was runner-up in the N.C. Junior Girls Championship.

Commitments: Phillip Shuler of Southeast Raleigh, the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A heavyweight wrestling champion, has signed with Appalachian State.

Shuler was 39-0 in 2013.

Millbrook volleyball player Tara Dotzauer recently announced a commitment to U.S. Naval Academy.

Rising junior Hailey Brook McFadden of Wake Christian committed to Wake Forest for volleyball, and Leesville Road senior McKenzie Dipper has committed to Elon for girls’ soccer.
