The top two teams in the Cap Eight face off in a key match. A Heritage win could force a tie for first place in the conference.

Sanderson has been on a roll, outscoring opponents 10-1 last week. The Spartans won the first meeting 2-0.

Girls’ tennis:

Panther Creek

at Broughton

3:30 p.m. Tuesday

The defending NCHSAA 4A champions face another ranked nonconference team in Panther Creek.

Broughton, ranked No. 1, has handled such opponents this year, topping No. 6 East Chapel Hill and No. 7 Greensboro Grimsley. Panther Creek is ranked No. 2 in the state by the N.C. High School Tennis Coaches Association.

Apex, Leesville Road

at Cardinal Gibbons

Noon Saturday

Cardinal Gibbons, ranked No. 1 in The News & Observer’s list of area teams, will face No. 2 Apex. The teams join No. 8 Leesville Road in an all-day round-robin tournament.
