Matches of the week

Girls tennis:

Cap Eight individual championships

at Millbrook Exchange Park

Broughton swept last year’s individual championships. Maggie Kane, now a senior, took the conference singles title before going on to win NCHSAA 4A championship. Her teammates Kelsey Boole and Olivia King took the doubles title, besting fellow Broughton duo Adrienne Overcash and Kara Summerford.

Kane fell to Wakefield sophomore Susanne Boyden last month, and Millbrook’s Savannah Taranto and Lauren McCorquodale went on to the state semifinals last year where they lost to Summerford and Overcash.

When: Tuesday and Wednesday

Wakefield (11-1)

at Broughton (12-0)

Broughton hosts Wakefield in a likely preview of next week’s Cap Eight tournament finals.

The two teams have dominated the conference this year, with Wakefield’s only loss coming in a 3-2 thriller against Broughton last month.

Wakefield was without Kentucky recruit senior hitter Darian Mack in that contest, but the young Caps will try to remain undefeated in the regular-season finale.

The Cap Eight tournament begins Thursday at the higher seed and continues next week at Wakefield.

When: Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.

Leesville Road (5-7)

at Enloe (5-7)

Leesville Road and Enloe look to settle a tie for fourth place in the Cap Eight. Leesville won the previous matchup, 3-0.

Only four teams from the conference are guaranteed a spot in the state tournament.

When: Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.
