Rugby registration open

The North Raleigh Redhawks Spring 2014 Rugby team registration is open. Boys and girls ages 5-19 with any level of fitness are welcome. Younger age groups play touch, and older age groups play tackle. Registration closes Dec. 31. For more information, visit www.redhawksrugby.com.

Gobbler’s Run

Registration is open for the annual Gobbler’s Run 5K benefiting the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club. The race, scheduled for 8 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, is open to runners and walkers of all ages. Pets and strollers are also welcome. The event is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day to encourage families to run and walk together.

The race will start and finish at the Boys & Girls Club of Wake Forest, 325 S. Wingate St., Wake Forest. Registration costs $25 before Monday, Nov. 25, for ages 16 and older. The fee increases to $30 after Nov. 25. Participants ages 6 to 15 can register for $20 before Monday, Nov. 25, and $25 after. Children 5 and younger can participate for free. MSFITS bike ride

Team MSFITS is accepting applications for its fifth annual Makin’ Room for Turkey bike ride for Sunday, Nov. 24. The ride will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Raleigh Rescue Mission. The event will take place behind the Chelsea Place building at 1007 Slater Road, Durham. Just Think First 5k

Frostbite Doubles tournament

Raleigh Parks & Recreation will host the Frostbite Doubles tournament Friday through Sunday, Dec. 13-15 at Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center, 1905 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh.

The tournament is split into junior, adult and senior divisions with a consolation for all first-match losers and trophies for tournament winners and finalists. Registration costs $18 for city residents and $24 for nonresidents. The entry deadline is Monday, Dec. 9. T-shirts and Saturday lunch are also included for participants.

Tennis coaches needed

Tennis coaches are needed for USTA Junior Team Tennis for the fall season. Players at the 3.5 level will be trained as coaches. Teams are composed of children ages 8 and younger or 10 and younger. Practices are held from 5-6:30 p.m. Fridays and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturdays.

The position pays $12 per hour and $8.25 per hour for training and administrative duties.

Pickleball open play

Play pickleball from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday at Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St., Wake Forest.

Pickleball is played on a badminton court with a lowered net, a perforated plastic baseball and wood paddles. It is easy to learn but can develop into a competitive game for experienced players.
