Teams gear up for holiday basketball tournaments

Several area teams will take to the court during the holiday break to participate in basketball tournaments throughout the region.

Some will host tournaments while others will travel to other parts of the state and even out of state to get in some extra game time before conference play starts back up after the new year.

Unless otherwise noted, the following tournaments are scheduled to run Thursday through Saturday.

Broughton: The 41st edition of the Holiday Invitational will be hosted by the Caps and kicks off Wednesday. Both Broughton’s boys’ and girls’ teams will compete in the tournament. Cary Academy will host the girls’ games, with the exception of the tournament championship, which will be at Broughton.

Cardinal Gibbons: Cardinal Gibbons’ girls’ square off with five local teams in a tournament hosted by Athens Drive.

Enloe: Enloe’s boys and girls will participate in the Corinth Holders Holiday Classic, which features teams from five schools.

Heritage: The Huskies boys’ team will travel to Southern Pines for the fifth annual Holiday in the Pines tournament hosted by Pinecrest High School. The tournament will feature seven other boys’ teams. The Heritage girls will join Gibbons at the Athens Drive tournament.

Leesville Road: The Pride boys’ team will join Broughton at the Holiday Invitational.

Millbrook: Millbrook’s teams will travel south to represent North Carolina in the 5th annual Upward Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. Non-Carolina teams will hail from Georgia, Florida and Tennessee.

Ravenscroft: The Ravens boys’ basketball team will face Sanderson in the opening round of the South Granville Invitational. The Ravenscroft girls will travel to Wilmington for the Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament, where they will face Hoggard in the opening round.

Sanderson: The Spartans teams will part ways, sending the boys’ team to South Granville and the girls to Eastern Alamance. The girls’ team will participate in the Holiday Hoopla tournament, joined by Cary, Green Hope and five other teams. The boys will kick things off against Ravenscroft at South Granville.

St. David’s: Both St. David’s teams will be at the Vision Sporting Goods Holiday Basketball Tournament hosted by Cary Academy

Wake Forest-Rolesville:: Both Cougars teams will participate in the Bunn Holiday Tournament.

Word of God: The Rams will participate in the Holiday Invitational boys’ basketball tournament at Broughton.
