Two area schools plan to add lacrosse programs this spring.
The N.C. High School Athletic Association released a draft of the 2013 lacrosse conferences, and on them are a few new programs. Sanderson, which fielded a club boys’ lacrosse team last spring, will now have a varsity team, and Heritage will field a varsity girls’ lacrosse team for the first time.
The additions bring the Triangle’s total to 18 varsity girls’ teams of 59 statewide and 28 boys’ teams of 79.
Three other schools in the state – Jacksonville, Sun Valley and Lake Norman Charter – are adding girls’ lacrosse teams, while two – Sun Valley and Davie County – are adding boys’ lacrosse teams.

Fewer than a quarter of all NCHSAA schools field lacrosse teams, so the association groups its conferences differently from other sports.
Sanderson’s boys will be in Conference 3 with Broughton, Enloe, Garner, Heritage, Leesville Road, Millbrook, Southeast Raleigh and Wakefield.
The Heritage girls’ team will be in Conference 3 with Broughton, Cardinal Gibbons, Enloe, Leesville Road, Millbrook and Wakefield.
