Stroud brings experience, leadership to Millbrook girls’ soccer

Millbrook’s Jackie Stroud was all over the field in last week’s 3-2 win over Leesville Road in the regular season finale. She scored the game’s first goal and her team’s winning goal as the Wildcats remained undefeated in Cap Eight play.

Stroud knows a lot about winning. She won a state championship as a freshman in Fayetteville, Ga.,before transferring to Millbrook.

“I was just a freshman when we won, and we had a bunch of seniors,” she said of the Georgia title. “We came here and there were not that many seniors.”

Stroud quickly asserted herself, earning All-Conference honors last season for Millbrook. She leads Millbrook in goals scored this year with 14 in the regular season.

Now a senior, the Old Dominion recruit is leading the charge for Millbrook, as the Wildcats look to make a postseason push after heading into the conference tournament as the top seed. Millbrook coach Matt Edwards said that Stroud, Rachel Hallman, the team’s assist leader, and the other seniors have been the catalysts for his team’s success this season.

“It leads to bringing the best out of the other players,” he said. “We’re lucky to have a good bit of talent, but those two players bring it out of the rest of them.”
