Fuquay-Varina tops The News & Observer final high school baseball rankings and Wake Forest-Rolesville keeps the top spot in girls’ softball after last weekend’s state championship series.

Fuquay-Varina won the first game in its best-of-3 4A series against South Mecklenburg, but dropped the next two games. Alexander Central won two straight from Wake Forest-Rolesville in the 4A softball series.

The only change in the polls is Apex, which was eliminated by Wake Forest in the third round, leaping past 2A finalist South Granville into the No. 2 spot.
